Fujifabric – Fabfox (2005)

Ok, so today I feel like reviewing one of my favorite, most cheerful cd’s!  It’s Fabfox, by the amazing Japanese band, Fujifabric!  To all those people out there who don’t listen to Japanese music just because it’s in Japanese and their voices are a little different from ours, give this a chance!  If you’re feeling blue, or if you’re happy, this album will definitely improve your mood!  Ok, so I would classify this band and album as something along the lines of sort of a modern rock with a little retro and disco flavor added!  I mean, they use an organ quite frequently.  There’s not much else to say about this album, but I love all of it!  So definitely give it a listen if you can find it!  (I’m not really sure how to “review” a japanese album, so I’ll just recommend it!)

btbam – colors (2007)

ok, so today i feel like reviewing an album! i’ll start off with an intro to the band, Between The Buried And Me.  they’re an amazing metalcore band with a great sound!  ok, so aside from that, their “new” cd, Colors, is what i believe to be the epitome of btbam.

The album starts out with a sort of piano rock-ish song, but immediately goes into a very complex second part.  After you’re done drooling over the intensity of the first two songs, btbam goes tribal and creates an interesting collage of intense metalcore and tribal drums and melodies.  After that, btbam pays a visit to their early days with a hardcore 10-minute epic.  They throw in a fairly good melody towards the end as well.  At this point, you’re not sure what to think of the cd, because every song has been completely different, but almost exactly the same.  Now it gets interesting… the song Ants Of The Sky is one of the best songs btbam has ever produced (in my humble opinion).  At first it sounds fairly similar to the previous song, but then after about half a minute, the percussion gets crazy and syncopated.  Then it switches over to a piano/bass duet, which leads into a very pachelbel-esque intro to the rest of the song (which clocks in at 13 minutes, 11 seconds).  After you’re done admiring btbam’s musical savvy and talent, they whip out a very heroic Prequel To The Sequel.  It’s fairly interesting, but personally i don’t think the song lives up to the epic-ness of the beginning of it.  This song leads into a calm, 3-minute, almost ambient bass solo, Viridian.  This song leads into the single most amazing song i’ve ever heard, White Walls.  It lasts for 14 minutes and 13 seconds, which, in my opinion, is far too short.  It’s got everything : complex percussion, crazy guitar shredding, a nice breakdown towards the end, and it ends with a 3-minute guitar “solo”.

All in all, i’d give this album a 4.7 out of 5.  It’s one of those cd’s that you have to listen to straight from start to finish to get the full, mind-blowing effect.
