so apparently the 12 days of Christmas are the days from the 25th of December to January 6th…. that’s weird… but i’m still gonna do 12 days of micro-reviews! yay! haha

Ahem… Yes, the Twelve Days of Christmas is a carryover from pagan times when the winter festival lasted perhaps 12 days, and is bracketed by Christmas on the 25th of December and Epiphany on the 6th of January. The 25th was probably chosen by ancient church and political leaders to be the birth date of Christ because it corresponded with the old Yule festival of the pagans. The Bible doesn’t give a date, but it is fairly clear that it was not very cold in Judea as “shepherds watched their flocks by night.” If you think that Christmas should be the last day of the 12 days, then go to Greece or anywhere that the Eastern Orthodox Church still celebrates Christmas as the 6th of January.
If you are a history buff, and I am, then a pretty good summary can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_Days_of_Christmas and also at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_Day .
Anyway, nice blog. And remember, it’s the thought that counts – at least I think it’s the thought that counts…
